Ethiopia isn’t just another coffee producing country, it’s the birthplace of coffee itself. The story begins over a thousand years ago, in the lush highlands of the Kaffa region. According to legend, a young goat herder named Kaldi noticed his goats becoming unusually energetic after eating red berries from a wild tree. Curious, Kaldi tried the berries himself and felt the same burst of energy. A local monk later used the berries to stay awake during evening prayers, and soon word of this magical bean began to spread.

From these humble beginnings, coffee became deeply rooted in Ethiopian culture. It wasn’t just a drink, it became part of daily life, ceremonies, and community. Even today, the traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony is a symbol of hospitality and respect, involving the roasting, grinding, and brewing of fresh beans in front of guests. It’s a slow, intentional process that invites conversation and connection.
